This gorgeous dress from Lady V London is brand new for the summer. With its detailed, delicate print and bright pink and blue colours, it’s perfect against a summer sky backdrop. I have a few too many Lady V tea dresses, so I opted for this print on an Isabella, my first Isabella, and I was not disappointed.
As a company, Lady V value quality and supporting the British economy. Taken from their website;
All dresses are designed in house at Lady V London. Until June 2013, all dresses had been made within the EU. We have never made our dresses outside of the EU and do not approve of making garments in China. We have travelled to China and believe the quality is not good enough for Lady Vintage. Not to mention the language barrier, work standards, poor packaging, slow delivery and their ethical treatment of workers. We have seen first-hand child workers in China, and never wish to support this kind of labour.
In June 2013 we began manufacturing Lady Vintage dresses in the heart of London as we strongly believe in supporting British Businesses and British Workers. We are proud that our dresses are made in the UK’s capital and that we are able to provide work for many people in our country and support the British economy, especially in these difficult times.
We are now able to liaise directly with the workers, and oversee quality control ourselves – which means that Lady Vintage Dresses are higher quality than ever! With your support we can keep Lady Vintage in London and help boost London’s clothing manufacturing industry.
The Isabella style features an uber-feminine sweetheart neckline (my fave) which flatters the chest, as well as a coordinating edging detail, which is a detail of the dress I really love. The capped sleeves are cute and balance the style out, which the dress sitting just below my knees (I wear a size 10 and am just under 5ft 7inches). The little buttons and matching belt draw attention in to your waist which is where the dress attempts to draw the eye to give that typical 1950’s hour glass type figure.
The dress cost £45.00 full price and I am delighted with the cut, quality and fabric, as always. It arrived after a couple of days and was packaged well. It is made from 97% cotton and 3% elastine and is very comfortable and easy to wear. The material is somewhat thick (and not at all see-through) and the print is very bright, bold and attractive in terms of colours. I love the combo of pink and blue and you could go either way with accessories and shoes, leaning towards one or the other colour. Lady V dresses are very well made and this particular material doesn’t crease when worn, which is great for being on-the-move. It requires a light iron and washes just fine on a cool wash, which makes it very low maintenance.
You could layer a petticoat underneath for a more formal look but I feel the skirt sits nicely without it. I’d probably go for a matching blue petticoat if I was to wear one, and go all-out pin-up and bright. It has a concealed zip on the high-neck back which I have someone help me zip up!
As you can see from the photos, I chose to wear some burgundy heels with the dress, a fun, vintage style hairband and matching pink lipstick.
Not only is it great for your summer tea parties, BBQ’s and even work, but the style allows it to be worn for more casual affairs such as meeting up with friends or even around the house.
In terms of sizing, I bought this dress in a size 10 and it fits perfectly – I’m a regular UK size 10 in most shops and brands. Lady V have a really handy measurement chart on their site which is accurate, so I’d suggest taking measurements and using the chart to help you decide what size to get. In my opinion, Lady V run true to size without much stretch in their fabric.
This print is still available online and the style comes in many other prints, too. If you have a smaller bust, a tea dress or Hepburn would perhaps fit you better as an Isabella is slightly more generous in the bust area due to its cut.
Lady V cover UK sizes 8-32, with a specific line for the fuller figure called Lady Voluptuous which focuses on styles that flatter sizes 16-32 especially. Recently, they also launched the Little Lady Vintage line for 3-12 year olds, which is adorable.
I would always recommend Lady V London.
